EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR HIRED FOR CAPITOL THEATRE IN DOWNTOWN UNION CITY
UNION CITY, TENN. – A familiar face to the downtown community has been hired as the executive director for the Capitol Theatre. Katie Graves, formerly the executive director for Main Street Union City, has been named the executive director for the theatre and will assist in all daily operations for the newly-renovated performing arts center located in the heart of downtown Union City.
Graves will work closely with Masquerade Theatre’s Board of Directors, the nonprofit sector of the theatre, to promote upcoming performances and movies. She will also serve as the primary fundraiser, manage the theatre’s calendar of events, implement effective marketing and PR strategies, as well as manage the annual budget.
“I am excited to join the team and help open the Capitol Theatre later this year, as well as promote the upcoming shows and events,” said Graves. “Not only is this going to be a transformational economic impact to our downtown and local community, but it is also going to be a great tourism attraction for guests to enjoy performances in the evening after experiencing Discovery Park of America or Reelfoot Lake.”
For over 30 years, the theatre has been run by dedicated volunteers who have a passion for the performing arts and have been involved in the productions put on by Masquerade Theatre. One of those dedicated volunteers is Allison Butner, the current board chairman of the nonprofit.
“We are very excited about the transformation that the theatre is undergoing, and we are thankful that Katie has joined us to help oversee the operations side of this business,” said Butner. “We are so fortunate and grateful for David Ring’s generous gift as well as all the gifts from our local community members in Union City and Obion County to help complete the renovation project. We can’t wait for the community to see the improvements and to experience Masquerade Theatre productions, movies, guest performances and more once we open the doors.”
The projected date for the Capitol Theatre to be completed and ready to welcome the public is Thanksgiving Weekend with a “Christmas at the Capitol” live production of Masquerade Theatre alumni performing classic Christmas songs. If you or someone you know is an alum of the theatre and would like to participate, please reach out to Allison at [email protected].
If you are interested in supporting this incredible investment and project in the community, there are many ways you can help. You can sponsor a nice, plush velvet-blue chair in memory or in honor of someone special or you can ask what other items need funding.
